Teresa gets her cinnamon buns

After missing the freshly made cinnamon buns yesterday, I wasn't taking any chances in disappointing my bride again.

We quickly gulped down our first cup of coffee, then I threw on some clothes and a cap, and headed to the cafe.

Yes, success.  Teresa was all smiles !

We enjoyed our baked goods with the rest of the coffee pot while sitting outside on our patio.

It was in the 80's today, as we walked around the resort, and spent time visiting with neighbours.

A lot of folks just leave a fifth wheel rig in place

We shared our favorite cocktails together before supper, when it cooled down, and returned inside our rig.

Oh, ya, remember when I ate what I thought was an orange.

Well, it turns out they are Meyer lemons, and people in the park make lemonade out of them.

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade

I got on the internet, and found some great recipes.  These lemons are as easy to peel as mandarin oranges, and they release their juice so easily, it can be done by hand.

I then added more water, and some sugar, and we were thrilled with the results.  Hmmm, very very good !!

Every morning, I have been enjoying a grapefruit, and now I have a tasty beverage to share with my gal in the heat of the day !!

Hot, with no wind

We had a wonderful sleep last night.  I am not sure which plant it is, but there is the most amazing smell throughout this resort.

We enjoyed our coffee time together, but we cut it a little short, because they have a cafe and espresso bar here in the resort, and we heard the freshly baked cinnamon buns are to die for !!

I wanted to give the rig and car a quick rinse, because there was quite a bit of dust on everything.

By the time I hosed everything off and had a shower, it was nearly noon.

We decided to head over to the cafe, and have the buns and coffee for lunch.

But, you guessed it, they were long sold out !!

Oh, well, the muffins and coffee were scrumptious.

The cafe is at one of the clubhouses, where there is a paddling pool.

Lap pool in the background and kids paddling pool to the left

There was a young family with two children at the paddling pool, and Teresa was chatting with them, thinking of our little granddaughter.

But, you promised me a cinnamon bun !!

After our sugar laden lunch, we walked around the resort for nearly two hours.

Boy, I sure miss work ... NOT

For supper, I bbq'd shrimp that we had purchased while visiting the gulf coast in Texas.  Teresa made baked potatoes, and a veggie, and we cracked a bottle of white wine.

The perfect ending to a perfect day.

Cathedral City, Cali

Today will go on record as our shortest move yet.

A whopping 15 miles :)

The other day while we were visiting at the Outdoor Resort Palm Springs RV Resort and Country Club, we noticed an ad from a owner interested in renting their lot for a week.

We contacted them, and voila, we are here for one glorious week !

Lots of  lush greenery everywhere

Our fellow RV'ers here should be on commission, because without fail, everyone we bumped into went on and on about what a wonderful place this is.

We haven't had a chance to set up our patio yet

There are a lot of Canadians here, one office staff estimated it to be about 30%  Canuks.

We have a grapefruit tree, and some other kind of citrus tree on our lot.

Not sure what kind of fruit this is, but they are very sour

I think we are going to have a very good week !!

Meeting Cyber Friends

The weather has been amazing !!

Exactly what we were hoping to find in Southern Cali.

Teresa and I have been reading the website of John and Angela for a couple of years now.

They are a fulltiming couple from British Columbia.

They agreed to meet up with this new RV'ing couple from Saskatchewan.

They have an RV lot at the Outdoor Resort Palm Springs RV Resort and Country Club.

The welcoming entrance

Va, va, va, voom, this is a very classy resort !!

They have lots of water and green space

As soon as we started driving up the road, we knew we were in for a real treat.  This place is nice.

This lake is home to lots of errant golf balls

The residents are super friendly as well, because when we got a little lost, a couple on a golf cart said "follow us" and away we went.

With their assistance we found John and Angela's winter home.

Oh, boy, this is getting better and better.  They back up to the golf course with a lake front view.

Angela and John

We shared a glass of wine, and quickly got acquainted.  They are the exact same age as us, and we shared many of the same values, and outlook on life.

They asked us if we would like to tour the resort, and in a heartbeat we both said "Yes" !

Views to take your breath away

The crown jewel of this park is the 27 holes of golf.  Free for every owner.

Is this a postcard or reality ?

They also have 14 tennis courts, 8 swimming pools, a restaurant, fitness center, and all the organized events you would expect from a resort of this calibre.

7 lakes on over 137 beautiful manicured acres

After touring us around, we returned to their rig to further discuss this crazy RV lifestyle we all love.

They had a wealth of experience between the two of them, and we were thirsty to hear as much as we could in only a few hours.

One of two huge gorgeous clubhouses

Now, before we got there, Teresa gave me strict orders to keep the visit short, because we hate to be intrusive.

Guess what ??  I had to drag Teresa away, kicking and screaming because she was enjoying our time with this great couple.

You would smile too, in such beautiful surroundings

We are so thankful and appreciative to John and Angela, for patiently putting up with our many questions and seeking their advice on a multitude of topics.

Me thinks our paths may cross again one day.

Once again everyone, repeat after me - "RV'ers are the nicest people" !!

An Amazing Day

Finally !!

After five days of wind, we had the most wonderful day.

Teresa and I decided to take advantage of the weather, and headed outside.

We checked out the pool, here at the Sand's resort.

Gorgeous pool, golf course, and mountain views

Two hot tubs

Next on our list was the short drive to the College of the Desert Street Fair.

Hot and sunny brought out the crowds

Teresa almost fell over herself fussing over this cute dog with it's own sunglasses.

Very cute in sunglasses, and so is the pooch !

Remember how we keep being surprised by bumping into people we know.  Well it happened again today.

I had just purchased a hat to go hiking with, because my ever growing bald spot just keeps growing.

As I walked out of the hat booth, I looked up, and saw a gentleman with the same looking hat on.  I made some kind of comment about how I thought my hat was a one of a kind original, when it suddenly hit me that I was talking to John from  RV Life on Wheels

Me with Judy and John

Teresa and I have been following this Canadian fulltime couple for the last couple of years.  We are hoping to meet up with them again before we leave here.  They are such a friendly couple.

All of this walking sure works up an appetite, so of course we had to stop for some fries and a date shake.

Put down the camera so I can start eating

We enjoyed the sights and sounds, and suddenly realized the vendors were closing up shop, because the fair was over.

Instead of heading straight home, we decided to continue on Monterey Ave into the mountains.

Beautiful Resorts

The name of the street changes to Pines to Palms and begins a series of switchbacks as you head up in altitude.

Some curves had us slowing down to 30 mph

We both started laughing out loud when we looked at the GPS trying to keep us on the road.

Recalculating, Recalculating

The view at the top is simply amazing.

Dang ... It looks like my new hat blew off

We carefully drove back down the twisty road and headed for home.

As we were pulling into our site we saw Paulette walking the fur kids.

I didn't think our day could get any better but I was wrong.

Rick and Paulette invited us to go to one of the most popular bistro's in Palm Springs.

Busy day and night at Shermans

Shermans offers great food, and has a very lively atmosphere.  There were lineups to get in, although the wait time is minimal.

Paulette and Rick

Even though the portions were quite large, we decided to try some dessert.

Excuse me miss - May I have one of everything

The cakes were every bit as good as they looked.

It was just one of those days when you wish it would never end !

Meeting more RV'ers at the Sands

It was a typical start to the day.

First one up ( Teresa this morning ) jumps out of bed, turns on the coffee pot and water heater, then leaps back into bed, until the luring aroma of freshly brewed coffee opens our eyes.

At this point, one of us will pour coffees, while the other one selects a soft cd to listen to.  With pillows propped up in bed, we discuss a variety of issues, usually involving family or RV travel.

This usually carries on for at least an hour, and sometimes longer.

Now you can see why we just can't make any commitments, before noon !

Today was very relaxing and quiet.  Teresa was doing a little house cleaning, and I walked over to the recycling bins in the resort.

Just then, I noticed Rick with his two pups.  We started talking, and I ended up watching the pups romp around in the dog park.

This is a great little park, that made me wish I had a dog to play with in the manicured grass and pond.

On the way back to our rigs, Rick introduced me to Tom and his wife Jennifer, who in turn invited us to their rig for a little gathering they were hosting.

We met at least another dozen wonderful people, who made us feel very welcome.

We can see how these communities become a sort of extended family for returning snowbirds.

We had a great time, and we finally got to meet Paulette as well.

After Rick linked our blog from his post yesterday, I was shocked to see we had gained another 13 readers.  I knew he was popular !

Now, just imagine how many more we would have gained if Paulette would have linked us from her quilting blog !!

A big welcome to all who have decided to check in on these two snowbirds.

Meeting a Popular Blogger, and the Palm Springs Villagefest

The winds were relentless overnight and into today as well.

Folks are telling us that it was calm until we got here ... figures.

One of the reasons we decided to stay at this park, was because a very popular RV blogger winters here.

It was great finally meeting half of  Rick and Paulette .  Paulette was off with some friends, shopping for quilting supplies.

We had a great visit with Rick and their two adorable pups, Molly and Rylie.

We are hoping to maybe go out for a meal with them, so we can meet the better half of this dynamic duo !!

Now one of the things Rick said we might be interested in was the Palm Springs Villagefest, held on Thursday night only.

Are we ever glad he did, because we had a great time tonight.  They barricade off a few blocks in the heart of Palm Springs, and vendors set up on the streets, offering a wide variety of goods for sale.

When we left Desert Hot Springs, it was so windy, we had to shout to be heard, and the sand was drifting across the road.

Palm Springs is tucked in behind a mountain range, less than 20 minutes away from here, and there was no wind, in fact not even a breeze.  Our napkins did not budge off the table when we grabbed a snack at the street fair.

Imagine my surprise when someone called out my name, and there was a former co-worker of mine.  This is now the third time we have bumped into someone from Regina in this area.

Although the photos don't show it, this place was jam packed with people taking in the sights, and the food, and the entertainment.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and we have Rick to thank for this great tip !
