Beautiful Day for a Hike

Today was a near perfect day.

We awoke to sunny skies, with a forecast high in the low 70's.

We really wanted to do another hike before we leave this area on Friday, and today was the day.

Our hike started at the Lost Dutchman State Park. This is a fairly popular spot, with lots of hikers and convenient parking.

Even though we have been trying to get lots of exercise in since we came south, we were both huffing and puffing, fairly early into the hike.

This is a moderately difficult hike, with lots of loose rocks to try and catch you off guard.

Near the top, we met a very nice couple that was going about the same pace as us, so we hiked together.

They have been coming here for about seven years, so they had lots of advice to pass on to us.

We went about as high up as you can go before it starts getting unreasonably difficult ( think clawing your way on all fours ), so we all decided to take a breather.

The view from the top was amazing.

We were all thinking we should have started a little earlier in the morning because by this time it was after noon, and we were all exhausted from the heat.

We shook hands and said goodbye to our new friends, and made a bee line for Paradise Bakery, where we knew coffee and pastries were in order.

Hmmm, it tasted so good because we were starved.

The rest of the afternoon was spent shopping for our grand kids, and making a couple of stops for groceries as well.

In fact, we never got home until well after dark.

Oh well, it can't be all fun and games, right ??

  1. Kevin and I camped in a tent at Lost Dutchman State Park in January of 2005 and we just about froze at night. We also did that hike and it is a beautiful one for sure. Love the views there, glad you were able to enjoy the hike and the scenery.

  4. You chose a beautiful day for that hike. We have yet to do that one but you've 'whet our appetite'. It's now on our 'to do' list. You did reward yourselves well with the coffees and pastries.

We'll be in touch soon about coming over to our sport.

  6. You guys are in such great shape! I just realized this morning that since I've been staying with first my son and now my daughter since Christmas Eve, I haven't been taking my usual walks with Katie. She has been off leash in their yards for over a month. We are so about of the walking habit, it's going to be had to get started again. (But I'm so ready!!!)

We don't hike like you do, but three or four small walks a day have to be pretty good for us. :)
